Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to criticism from former Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag, who recently questioned the Portuguese star's performances during the later stages of his career.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Sport Bild, British journalist Piers Morgan revealed the 41-year-old footballer's reaction during an appearance on the Football Uncensored show.
According to Morgan, Ronaldo made it clear that he had no interest in discussing his former manager's comments.
"I asked Cristiano about it. He told me that Ten Hag is not someone worth talking about," Morgan said.
The Dutch coach had previously criticized Ronaldo's second spell at Manchester United, suggesting that the Portuguese forward was no longer capable of performing at his former level.
"Without a doubt, Cristiano is one of the best footballers in the world. But the reality is that he hasn't performed at the expected level over the past seven or eight years. After Juventus, it was all over," Ten Hag stated.
Morgan defended Ronaldo, pointing to his impressive scoring record during his final full season at Manchester United, when he netted 18 goals in the English Premier League and another six in the UEFA Champions League.
The journalist argued that Ronaldo could have remained at Old Trafford for another two or three years and continued scoring regularly. He also accused Ten Hag of treating the Portuguese superstar disrespectfully.
Relations between Ronaldo and Ten Hag deteriorated significantly in 2022. In November of that year, the forward gave a controversial interview to Morgan in which he declared that he had no respect for the Dutch manager and felt betrayed by Manchester United.
Shortly afterward, the English club announced the termination of Ronaldo's contract by mutual agreement.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner subsequently joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where he has continued his playing career.
