Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has highlighted his team's disappointing record in Greece ahead of their UEFA Champions League encounter with AEK Athens.
As reported by İdman.Biz, speaking at the pre-match press conference in Athens, the Portuguese manager emphasized the challenges of playing against Greek opposition on their home ground.
"They are the national champions. Playing in Greece is always difficult. Even Real Madrid, the kings of European football, have won only one of their eight matches here. I also played here twice many years ago, and I know how difficult it is to compete in such an atmosphere," Mourinho said.
The Real Madrid coach believes AEK will be determined to take advantage of their home fixtures despite facing a demanding Champions League schedule.
"They have a very difficult schedule in the Champions League. I'm sure they see their home matches as their best opportunity to collect points. Moreover, every opponent gets extra motivation when they see Real Madrid's white shirts. We must produce our best performance in this match. Otherwise, we won't win," he added.
Real Madrid will be looking to improve their historically poor record on Greek soil, while AEK will hope to use home advantage to secure a valuable result in the league phase.
The AEK Athens vs Real Madrid match will take place today, November 4, in Athens, with kick-off scheduled for 21:45 Baku time.
