Portugal and Al Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to his remarkable 23-year career with the national team.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the 41-year-old superstar confirmed his decision in an emotional farewell video shared on social media.
Ronaldo explained that the time had come to pass Portugal's iconic No. 7 shirt to the next generation of players.
"This was not an easy decision because some decisions are made not only with the mind but also with the heart. A journey that began in August 2003 and changed my life forever is coming to an end," Ronaldo said.
The Portuguese legend reflected on the achievements, challenges and unforgettable moments he experienced during more than two decades representing his country.
He emphasized that wearing the national team jersey had always been one of the greatest honors of his career.
Ronaldo also expressed his gratitude to his family, coaches, teammates and everyone involved with the Portuguese national team throughout his international career.
"Today, I bring my journey on the pitch with the national team to an end. I leave with my head held high, proud of the path I have traveled and knowing that I gave everything I could for Portugal. But I will never stop being one of you," he added.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner concluded his farewell message with an emotional tribute to the shirt he made famous.
"The No. 7 shirt remains. The pride of having worn it will always stay with me. Portugal will forever be in my heart."
Ronaldo made his senior international debut for Portugal in August 2003.
Over the following 23 years, he made 234 appearances and scored 146 goals, establishing himself as one of the most prolific international goalscorers in football history.
His greatest achievements with Portugal include winning UEFA Euro 2016 and the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019.
Although Ronaldo has ended his international career, he remains a player for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
