Musa Gurbanli: "The opponent doesn’t matter, it’s in God’s hands"

"We have advanced to the Champions League play-off stage, and we still have a chance to qualify for the league stage. We will prepare well and try to reach the main round by showing our best performances," Qarabag striker Musa Gurbanli told Teleqraf.

The 23-year-old forward shared his thoughts on defeating North Macedonia’s Shkendija (1-0, 5-1) in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round and progressing to the next stage, Idman.biz reports.

Gurbanli said this result will be a good motivation for the upcoming matches: "It was a magnificent victory. First of all, we put on a great performance for our fans. Of course, they were even happier because of the goal-filled match. Seeing our fans so happy makes us even more satisfied."

The forward admitted he did not expect such a large scoreline: "Actually, when we conceded a goal in the 10th minute, we were a bit shaken. We have experienced this many times before, conceding early and then starting to play well. We went onto the pitch to win. A big-score victory is something that happens in football."

The young player also spoke about the upcoming play-off matches against Hungary’s Ferencvaros: "It doesn’t matter who the opponent is; it’s in God’s hands. We will do our preparation. We will get ready very seriously and do our best to win both matches."

Gurbanli considered the postponement of Qarabag’s Azerbaijan Premier League first-round match against Sabah to be a normal situation: "I haven’t seen any official statement about the change of date. Both they and we are playing in European competitions. Meeting now could be difficult for both sides. I hope Sabah advances in the UEFA Conference League. Whichever team has better physical preparation should get the good result."

Qarabag will play the first match against Ferencvaros away on August 19 and the return leg at home on August 27.
