Uzbekistan national team forward Eldor Shomurodov has spoken about his transfer to İstanbul Basaksehir.
The 30-year-old’s move from Roma to the Turkish club was officially confirmed last week, As Idman.biz reports.
The deal is a season-long loan with an option to buy.
Speaking to Championat.uz, Shomurodov highlighted his age as a factor: “First of all, I should mention that I’m already 30 years old. Now, I not only have to think about football, but also about the later stages of my career and the financial side of things.”
He revealed that he had received concrete offers from the UAE and Qatar but prioritized sporting ambitions: “I was only thinking about the upcoming World Cup. I believe the Turkish league is a mid-level championship, stronger than the UAE, but a bit weaker than Italy.”
The Uzbek striker also noted that Basaksehir’s participation in European competitions played a key role in his decision: “There were offers from bigger Turkish clubs as well, but I chose Basaksehir because it’s a young club with solid infrastructure. Compared to other teams, there’s less pressure here, and I’m confident I’ll get consistent playing time. Hopefully, we’ll have an injury-free season, which would be good preparation for the World Cup. We’ve reached a mutually beneficial agreement.”
