Neftçi's new signing Freddy Vargas has been instructed by head coach Yuriy Vernydub to lose excess weight in the coming days.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Sportinfo.az, the Venezuelan midfielder's physical condition is believed to be one of the reasons behind his below-expected performances in the opening rounds of the Azerbaijan Premier League and his substitutions during matches.
The Ukrainian coach has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Vargas' excess weight and demanded that the player return to his optimal physical condition within a short period.
According to the report, if Vargas fails to meet the requirement, he could lose his place in the starting line-up for upcoming matches and may also face a significant fine.
The Venezuelan, however, has indicated that the situation was not entirely his fault. Vargas explained that he was unable to train properly for a period after leaving Neftçi in June, while uncertainty during negotiations with Maccabi also prevented him from completing normal preparations.
Vargas has expressed his desire to regain the form he showed last season and has asked for time and an opportunity to reach his best condition.
