“There are no easy opponents in the Europa League. Whether it’s Celje in the first qualifying round or the winner between Partizan and AEK, all of them are strong and serious sides.”
These were the thoughts shared by Igor Ponomaryov, Sports Director of Sabah FC, in an interview with Teleqraf, as he assessed the team’s UEFA Europa League draw, Idman.biz reports.
The club official acknowledged the difficulty of the draw:
“Partizan is a familiar opponent, we faced them two years ago and only lost on penalties. For now, however, our full focus is on the games against Celje.”
Ponomaryov also noted that the club is close to announcing its new head coach and will soon begin preseason training:
“We will share detailed information on both the head coach appointment and the training camp in the shortest time possible.”
He added that new signings are expected to strengthen the squad ahead of European competition:
“Yes, we’re expecting new transfers. Our scouting team has done a good job, and I believe the new additions will make the team even stronger.”
Sabah will play the first leg of their UEFA Europa League first qualifying round match on July 10, with the return leg scheduled for July 17.
