Turan Tovuz is facing a growing mystery regarding the status of head coach Kurban Berdyev, as communication with the 72-year-old tactician has reportedly been cut off.
According to Sport24.az, club officials have been unable to reach Berdyev for several days, Idman.biz reports.
A crucial meeting involving the coach and club management was scheduled for June 1 or 2 to discuss plans for the upcoming season, including squad restructuring. However, Berdyev—who returned to Russia following the end of the 2024/25 season—has not responded to any phone calls from Azerbaijan.
Despite multiple attempts, the club's leadership has been unsuccessful in contacting him, leaving his future with Turan Tovuz uncertain.
Berdyev led Turan Tovuz to a 4th-place finish in the Azerbaijan Premier League this season, narrowly missing out on qualification for European competitions.
