The debut of Qarabag’s Amin Rzayev, crowned the youngest player of the Misli Premier League season, has sparked fresh interest in the average ages of clubs across the league.
Idman.biz has compiled a ranking of the youngest and oldest teams in the current campaign.
The list is based on the players who have played at least one minute this season. In total, 282 players have featured in the league, with an overall average age of 26 years and 337 days. Notably, six of these players have played for two different clubs this season.
A striking trend emerges when comparing this list with the current league standings: four of the youngest teams occupy the bottom spots on the table.
League bottom-dwellers Sabail rely on the youngest squad, while Kapaz, sitting 9th in the standings, also fields players averaging under 26 years. Close behind are Sumgayit and Shamakhi, continuing this youthful trend.
On the flip side, teams with older average squads are mostly title contenders — with one exception. Neftchi has one of the oldest rosters, though it still ranks younger than only Araz-Nakhchivan. Champions Qarabag, silver-medalist Zira, and bronze-chasing Turan Tovuz all average over 27 years.
Ranking of teams by average age:
Sabail (28 players) – 25 years, 254 days
Kapaz (32 players) – 25 years, 313 days
Sumgayit (32 players) – 26 years
Shamakhi (30 players) – 26 years, 2 days
Sabah (29 players) – 26 years, 245 days
Turan Tovuz (28 players) – 27 years, 119 days
Zira (26 players) – 27 years, 134 days
Qarabag (29 players) – 27 years, 274 days
Neftchi (30 players) – 27 years, 307 days
Araz-Nakhchivan (24 players) – 29 years, 52 days
