Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has dismissed reports suggesting he wanted to drop 18-year-old winger Lamine Yamal from the starting XI over punctuality issues.
Idman.Biz reports that rumors claimed Flick sought to punish Yamal ahead of the Champions League clash with PSG, but sporting director Deco allegedly intervened.
Speaking at a press conference, Flick called the claims “garbage” and confirmed Yamal had no punctuality problems. He stressed that the young star’s effort and commitment at training remain unquestioned, adding he does not interfere in Yamal’s private life.
Yamal, who has started the 2025-26 season strongly with two goals and four assists in four La Liga matches, is recovering from a groin injury and expected to return on October 20. Club insiders suggest the situation was exaggerated, with rumors potentially aimed at destabilizing management.
Barcelona’s immediate focus is Yamal’s recovery, while ensuring squad harmony and maintaining Flick’s authority. The winger, contracted until 2031, remains a cornerstone of the club’s long-term project.
