Trump threatens to strip Boston of 2026 World Cup matches

During a meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei at the White House, former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he could revoke Boston’s right to host matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reports Idman.Biz.

“I love the people of Boston. I know the tickets are sold out, but you have a bad mayor. If someone is not doing their job well and I deem conditions unsafe, I will call Gianni Infantino, the head of FIFA, who is a phenomenal person, and say, ‘Let’s move this to another location.’ And he will do it,” Trump told The Athletic.

Boston’s stadium is scheduled to host seven tournament matches, including two playoff games. Previously, Trump also suggested that hosting rights could be revoked from Seattle and San Francisco.

The World Cup draw will take place on December 5 in Washington, D.C. The 2026 tournament will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with matches played in 11 U.S. cities: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle.
