Carrick confirms Fernandes will remain Manchester United captain despite criticism

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed that Bruno Fernandes will remain the club's captain despite the midfielder's recent criticism of the team's tactical approach.

As reported by İdman.Biz, citing BBC Sport, Carrick addressed the issue ahead of United's Premier League Matchweek 9 clash against Chelsea.

Fernandes had previously publicly questioned tactical decisions made by Carrick and his coaching staff following the team's defeat in the Champions League, raising questions about his relationship with the manager and his future as captain.

"As I've already said, he's an important player for this team. He has been and will continue to be. Together, we need to turn things around and get everything moving in the right direction," Carrick said.

"He's fully committed to this football club and focused on making things better. So nothing changes.

"He's led the team so well over so many games and years, and he will continue to do so," the United manager added.

Fernandes has been one of Manchester United's most influential players since joining the club from Sporting CP in January 2020. The Portuguese international was appointed club captain in July 2023, succeeding Harry Maguire.

Manchester United will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 31, with kick-off scheduled for 16:30 Baku time.
