The Azerbaijan national team lost 0:3 to France in Paris in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Idman.Biz reports that our team’s defender, Elvin Jafarguliyev, spoke to journalists after the match:
- What can you say about the game?
- There’s not much to say about the match; we knew the opponent’s strength. Our head coach told us before the game that we couldn’t leave the field without fighting. At least we fought and did our best. As a team, we are tired, but we must forget everything and prepare for the upcoming match against Ukraine.
- If you hadn’t conceded a goal in the 2nd minute of the first half, could the result have been different?
- Against a team like France, it’s hard to say we could have held out in the second half if we didn’t concede in the first half. However, even after the first goal, we didn’t lose our spirit and fought well as a team.
- In terms of level, is this match like a Champions League game, or even higher?
- It’s true that the Champions League is a very high-level tournament. But as a team, we were playing against a very strong opponent. I think today’s match was at an even higher level.
- We saw that the national team looked physically tired. There’s a game against Ukraine on October 13. Could psychological fatigue be a problem in that match?
- I don’t think it will be a serious problem. We are used to playing at this pace, both in the Champions League and for the national team. We just need to recover well to prepare properly for the next match.
