Anna Bashta, the leader of Azerbaijan's fencing team, won a gold medal at the 25th "Flemish Open Championships" International Tournament held in Ghent, Belgium.
The press service of the Azerbaijan Fencing Federation reported to Idman.biz that Anna, who finished the group stage with an absolute result (6 wins), defeated Italian Margherita Collonna (15:7), French saber Charlotte Lembach (15:8) and Louise Klein (15:7) eliminated Great Britain representative Maxwell Caitlin (15:14). In the final, Anna won the gold medal of the tournament by defeating the Greek fencer Despina Georgiado, who is fourth in the world ranking of female saber fencers, with a score of 15:4.
Palina Kaspiarovich and Zarifa Huseynova managed to place in the top ten in the overall ranking in the tournament where about seventy female saber fencers competed.
Sabina Karimova was 11th, Valeriya Bolshakova was 22nd, and Sevil Bunyatova was 25th.
