On March 3, the 1st World Olympic Qualifying Boxing Tournament will start in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
Idman.biz reports that the Azerbaijani national team will be represented by 9 boxers in the 9-day competition.
The team includes Nijat Huseynov (51 kg), Umid Rustamov (57 kg), Tayfur Aliyev (63.5 kg), Sarkhan Aliyev (71 kg), Alfonso Dominguez (92 kg), Marjona Savriyeva (50 kg), Zeynab Rahimova (54 kg), Mahsati Hamzayeva-Aghamaliyeva (57 kg) and Shahla Abdullayeva (66 kg) will take place.
632 (399 men, 233 women) boxers from 114 countries are expected to participate in the tournament. In the competition, 28 men and 21 women will receive a license for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games.
According to the regulations, semi-finalists in all weight classes will qualify for the French capital. Only the finalists in women's 57 kg and the first 3 places in 60 kg will have an Olympic license.
The men's national team of Azerbaijan has been training in Italy since February 22, while the female boxers will go to Busto Arsizio tomorrow.
It should be noted that Murad Allahverdiyev (80 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+92 kg) have already won a license for Paris-2024.
