The Times Apologizes to FIFA and Gianni Infantino Over False Allegations

British newspaper The Times has issued a formal apology to FIFA and its president, Gianni Infantino, after acknowledging that several allegations published about the head of world football's governing body were inaccurate.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the newspaper published an article on October 13 claiming that Infantino had received an undisclosed "second salary" from FIFA that was not reflected in the organization's financial statements.

The publication also alleged that the FIFA president had purchased property in Miami at a reduced price and had connections to a company called Shadi LLC.

On October 20, The Times issued a formal correction, withdrawing the claims and acknowledging errors in its original reporting.

"On October 13, 2026, in our sports section, we reported that Gianni Infantino received a 'second salary' from FIFA which FIFA had not disclosed. This was incorrect. There was no 'second salary'," the newspaper stated in a correction published by FIFA's press service.

The Times clarified that FIFA is not required to include expenses and reimbursements received by Infantino in its annual report because such payments are not classified as remuneration under Swiss financial reporting regulations.

The newspaper also withdrew its allegations concerning the Miami property and Shadi LLC.

"We also acknowledge that Mr Infantino did not purchase property in Miami at a reduced price, as we reported. Neither he nor members of his family are legal or beneficial owners of Shadi LLC, nor do they control the company, as we suggested," the statement continued.

The British publication concluded by expressing regret over the inaccuracies.

"We are pleased to make these corrections and apologize to Mr Infantino and FIFA for the errors."

The correction addresses allegations concerning Infantino's financial arrangements and business connections, with the newspaper explicitly acknowledging that its original claims were unfounded.
