Lucas Da Cunha included in Zidane's preliminary France squad

Como midfielder Lucas Da Cunha has been included in the preliminary squad drawn up by new France head coach Zinedine Zidane.

As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Le Parisien, the 25-year-old is on Zidane's extended list of candidates for his first France squad. The final selection is expected to be announced on Friday.

Born in France to a Portuguese father, Da Cunha previously expressed a desire to represent Portugal and play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. However, he never received a call-up from the Portuguese national team and now has an opportunity to earn a place in the France squad.

Da Cunha has represented Rennes, Nice, Lausanne and Clermont during his career. He joined Como in January 2023 and became one of the key players in the club's promotion to Serie A. He currently serves as the team's captain.

The midfielder made 36 appearances during the 2025/26 season, scoring six goals and providing five assists.

His performances also attracted interest from Marseille, but Como head coach Cesc Fabregas was unwilling to sanction the player's departure.

Da Cunha will now wait to discover whether he has made Zidane's final squad and could receive his first senior call-up for France.
