Sunderland have announced the signing of Belgium international winger Malick Fofana from Lyon.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the 21-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the English club.
According to Lyon, the transfer fee is €35 million, including €5 million in potential bonuses. The French club will also receive 12.5% of any profit Sunderland make from a future sale of the player.
Fofana joined Lyon in January 2024 and went on to make 84 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists.
The Belgium international endured an injury-hit 2025/26 campaign, missing a significant part of the season after undergoing ankle surgery. He nevertheless featured in 16 matches, scoring twice and registering one assist.
The move represents another major investment by Sunderland as the club continues to strengthen its squad with young players who already have experience at the highest level of European football.
Fofana, who can operate on either wing, has also established himself in the Belgium national team setup and is regarded as one of the country's promising attacking talents.
