Trabzonspor have responded to head coach Fatih Tekke's decision to resign following the team's heavy defeat in European competition.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the Turkish club confirmed in an official statement that the 48-year-old will remain in his position.
Tekke announced his resignation after Trabzonspor suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Hungary's Ferencvaros in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off tie. However, the club's board refused to accept his resignation.
Trabzonspor confirmed that Tekke will remain in charge for the team's next Turkish Super Lig match against Amedspor.
Following the defeat in Hungary, Tekke took responsibility for the result and announced his decision to step down live on television, admitting that he had not informed the club's management beforehand.
"There are some matches that hurt you deeply. This was one of them. I have always told my players that defeats belong to me and victories belong to them. Today's defeat is unacceptable. Someone had to take responsibility for it, and I am doing so," Tekke said.
Trabzonspor lost the first leg against Ferencvaros 1-0 before suffering a 4-0 defeat in Hungary, going out 5-0 on aggregate and missing out on a place in the Europa League league phase. The Turkish side will now continue their European campaign in the UEFA Conference League.
Tekke was appointed Trabzonspor head coach on March 11, 2025. Under his management, the club have recorded 35 wins, 14 draws and 12 defeats in 61 competitive matches. He also guided Trabzonspor to the Turkish Cup in the 2025/26 season.
