Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has apologized to Liverpool defender Conor Bradley for an incident that took place in the closing moments of their Premier League Matchday 21 clash.
According to Idman.Biz, Martinelli wrote on social media that he did not immediately realize the seriousness of his opponent’s injury and misinterpreted the situation on the pitch. He said that he has already been in personal contact with Bradley and offered his apology. “Conor and I exchanged messages. I apologized to him. In the heat of the moment, I didn’t understand that he had suffered a serious injury. I want to say that I deeply regret my reaction. I wish Conor a speedy recovery,” Martinelli stated.
The incident occurred during stoppage time of the second half in a match that ended in a 0:0 draw. Bradley landed awkwardly on the turf after clearing the ball and began moving toward the center of the field, which Martinelli interpreted as an attempt to waste time. The Arsenal player tried to push the defender off the pitch near the touchline, prompting protests from Liverpool players and leading to a mass confrontation. Bradley later left the stadium on crutches.
