Football club Barcelona is hoping to sign a new central defender during the winter transfer window and has already identified a group of potential candidates.
According to İdman.Biz, citing Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club’s shortlist includes three players currently competing in Italy’s Serie A. These are Stefan de Vrij from Inter, Koni de Winter from Milan, and Juan Jesus, who plays for Napoli.
The need to strengthen the defense is linked to squad problems for the Blaugrana. Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen has been sidelined for a long period due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament, while the situation surrounding the future of Ronald Araujo remains uncertain. As a result, head coach Hans-Dieter Flick has limited options at center-back.
At the same time, it is noted that Barcelona will find it difficult to complete a transfer as early as January. Most clubs are reluctant to part with key players in the middle of the season, and potential deals are usually accompanied by inflated prices that the Catalan club cannot afford under its current financial conditions.
