La Liga president Javier Tebas has commented on the growing tension in Spanish football, stating that Barcelona is not responsible for the current situation.
According to Idman.Biz, Tebas believes the tension mainly comes from Real Madrid. “In my opinion, the tension originates from Real Madrid. They are fighting with everyone, with Barcelona, with referees, with everyone,” he said.
Tebas recalled that in the past, some actions taken by Barcelona were not appropriate and that La Liga was the first body to bring the issue to the prosecutor’s office. However, he stressed that linking those past events to current sanctions is fundamentally wrong and that there is a major difference between what happened then and the decisions being made now.
“There is a narrative being spread that refereeing mistakes are a result of past incidents. That is not true, and this line of thinking is what constantly creates tension. Pressure on referees is intensified every weekend through Real Madrid’s television channel and statements by the club’s president. They are seriously disoriented,” Tebas said.
