Alongside traditional indoor volleyball, other disciplines of the sport, including beach and snow volleyball, continue to develop in Azerbaijan. Although it is already mid-January, the dates of upcoming competitions in these formats had not been officially confirmed until now.
Idman.Biz contacted the leadership of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation to clarify when snow volleyball competitions would be held in the country. The federation’s Secretary General, Faiq Orujov, provided details on the plans.

“Compared to classic and beach volleyball, snow volleyball is considered a more challenging sport. Difficult weather conditions, the use of special sports equipment and a higher risk of injuries are among its main distinguishing features. These factors require athletes to have a higher level of physical and tactical preparation,” Orujov said.
He recalled that last year Azerbaijan hosted its first-ever national snow volleyball championship. The two-day event featured four women’s teams and four men’s teams and attracted significant interest from the sports community.
“Taking into account the positive experience and growing interest, we have decided to organize the Azerbaijan Snow Volleyball Championship again this year. The tournament will be held on January 24 and 25 for both men and women. As last year, the venue will be the Shahdag Tourism Center,” Orujov noted.
The federation official also pointed out that international snow volleyball competitions are already being organized, stressing that the formation of specialized clubs and national teams in this discipline is one of the key long-term goals.
“Steps taken in this direction will make an important contribution to Azerbaijan’s progress in snow volleyball on the international stage and to the sustainable development of this sport,” Orujov added.
