Azerbaijan will host the CEV EuroVolley Women.
Nine years after the EURO-2017 held together with Georgia, Azerbaijan returns to host the CEV EuroVolley Women, as Idman.biz reports with referring to CEV.
The Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation will co-host one of the four preliminary pools and do so at the very same venue that hosted most of the ground-breaking event held in 2017 – the iconic National Gymnastics Arena in Baku. This is where Serbia was crowned European champions in 2017 and the home side, supported by a large, passionate crowd put up a real fight in the semis as well as in the bronze medal match before finishing the competition in fourth place – their best result to this day in the competition.
The event scheduled for the late summer of 2026 will feature the 24 top teams in Europe – with six contesting their pool matches in Baku. This way, Azerbaijan join the other already confirmed organizers – Czechia and Sweden, which are due to host matches up until the quarterfinals and another preliminary pool, respectively.
CEV President Aleksandar Boričić gave a statement about this. “We are confident that the EuroVolley event will inspire the next generation of Azerbaijani players, while providing a major incentive for the current members of Azerbaijan’s national team and for the younger ones aspiring to compete on home soil in 2026. We look forward to working with our friends and colleagues at the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation to spread a real fever across the whole of Europe and further beyond as well."
