Djokovic battles past Struff to reach US Open quarter-finals

Novak Djokovic continued his pursuit of a historic 25th Grand Slam title with a commanding win over German qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff at the US Open.

Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that the 38-year-old Serb, who twice required medical attention for neck and forearm issues, showed few signs of slowing down as he powered to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 victory in under two hours. Djokovic, competing in his first event since Wimbledon, had looked fatigued in earlier rounds but relied on strong serving, hitting 33 winners and 12 aces without a single double fault.

With the win, he became the oldest player in the Open era to reach the quarter-finals at all four Grand Slams in the same season. Djokovic admitted his daughter was upset that his upcoming clash with fourth seed Taylor Fritz coincides with her birthday, but he promised to “try to win and give her that kind of present.” Despite questions over his physical condition, Djokovic showed his trademark resilience, sealing his 64th career Grand Slam quarter-final in his 80th appearance.
