Seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe has once again called on tennis officials to abolish on-court warm-ups immediately before matches.
As reported by İdman.Biz, under the current rules, players are given five minutes to warm up on court before the coin toss and the start of a match.
"On-court warm-ups should be abolished immediately. The players have already warmed up by the time they come onto the court. The changes don't have to be huge, but the game needs to evolve. It's difficult for people to sit in front of the television for hours. There didn't even used to be tie-breaks. Back then, for example, the first set of a match could end 28-26," McEnroe said during ESPN's live coverage of the 2026 US Open.
The 67-year-old American, one of the most successful players of his generation, won seven Grand Slam singles titles during his career, including four US Open and three Wimbledon championships.
