British doubles star Joe Salisbury has announced his retirement from professional tennis.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the 34-year-old revealed his decision following his final appearance at the US Open. Salisbury said he had been considering retirement for some time and was happy with his decision.
The Briton won six Grand Slam titles during his career. Partnering Rajeev Ram, he claimed the men's doubles title at the 2020 Australian Open and won the US Open three years in a row from 2021 to 2023.
Salisbury also enjoyed success in mixed doubles alongside Desirae Krawczyk, winning the French Open and US Open titles in 2021.
He rose to world No. 1 in the ATP doubles rankings in April 2022 and spent a total of 23 weeks at the top. Salisbury finished his career with 17 tour-level titles and 286 match wins.
His run of three consecutive US Open men's doubles titles with Ram from 2021 to 2023 was a historic achievement, with the pair becoming the first team to accomplish the feat in the tournament's men's doubles event.
The US Open was also Salisbury's final tournament. He and Ram reached the semifinals before losing 3-6, 4-6 to Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.
Salisbury retires as one of the most successful British men's doubles players of the Open Era.
