The finalists in the men’s and women’s singles events at the US Open have been confirmed.
As İdman.Biz reports, citing Reuters, Ben Shelton defeated fellow American Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 in the men’s semi-final to reach a Grand Slam final for the first time in his career.
The 23-year-old American will face Alexander Zverev in the final. The German defeated Karen Khachanov in three sets, winning 6-3, 7-6, 7-6.
Shelton could become the first American man since Andy Roddick in 2003 to win a Grand Slam singles title.
In the women’s final, Aryna Sabalenka will face Elena Rybakina.
Rybakina secured a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Coco Gauff in the semi-final. The Kazakhstan representative will rise to world No. 1 in the WTA rankings for the first time after the tournament.
Sabalenka, meanwhile, defeated Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2. The Belarusian will be aiming to win the US Open title for a third consecutive year.
