Clara Tauson reaches Canadian Open semis amid personal tragedy

Clara Tauson advanced to the semi-finals of the Canadian Open after a commanding 6-1, 6-4 victory over Madison Keys on Tuesday, marking just her second WTA 1000 semi-final appearance. Seeded 16th in Montreal, the 22-year-old Dane followed up her impressive win over world No.2 Iga Swiatek with another top-10 scalp.

Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that after the match, Tauson revealed she had been playing through grief following the recent death of her grandfather. "Two days ago, my grandfather unfortunately passed away – so I really wanted to win for him today," she said.

Ranked 19th in the world, Tauson dominated the first set, converting both break points and sealing it in just over 30 minutes. Despite Keys’ efforts, Tauson broke again early in the second and maintained her composure to close out the match.

She now looks to continue her run in Montreal, with her sights set on her first WTA 1000 final.
