The Azerbaijan national taekwondo team has finally secured its first medal at the World Championships in China.
According to Idman.Biz, Gashim Magomedov (58 kg), the team’s leading athlete, defeated competitors from India, Uzbekistan, Serbia, and Turkiye to reach the semifinals. There, he was defeated by Russian athlete Idar Bagov, competing under a neutral flag, securing the bronze medal for Azerbaijan.
At the previous World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijani athletes did not win any medals. This year, Azerbaijan entered nine athletes, eight of whom have already completed their competitions. One more medal opportunity remains with Javad Agaev (74 kg), who will compete tomorrow.
