The opening ceremony of the 53rd edition of the World Shooting Championships, governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), has been held here today.
In his opening remarks, Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov noted that the year 2023 was declared the "Year of Heydar Aliyev" in the country. He also said that the sporting federations of Azerbaijan had organized a number of massive events and competitions to mark the 100th anniversary of the National Leader. He also highlighted Heydar Aliyev’s special attention and support shown to Azerbaijani athletes.
The Baku-hosted World Shooting Championships will run from August 14 to September 1, bringing together 1239 athletes from 101 countries. Azerbaijan will be represented by 31 athletes.
