Gold medalist Kyle Armdorf: “My goal is to compete in the Olympic Games”

“I’m proud of myself for reaching the top of the podium.”

South African kayaker Kyle Armdorf, who won gold in the men’s single kayak at the International President Cup 2025 Regatta, shared his thoughts in an interview with AZERTAC, Idman.biz reports.

The athlete reflected on the challenges he faced en route to victory:

“I encountered multiple health issues during training. But I never gave up. I stood up, recovered, and kept going. I’m proud to have represented my country and family with dignity.”

Representing South Africa for the first time in this regatta, Armdorf expressed satisfaction with his performance:

“Winning a gold medal at a tournament where my country competed for the first time means a lot to me. These moments are rare. I want to tell all fellow rowers back home: never stop training, and always believe in victory.”

He also praised the organization of the event:

“Everything here is fantastic. I wish I had more time to stay in this beautiful country. Hopefully, we’ll be back in Azerbaijan for future competitions.”

Looking ahead, Armdorf underlined his main ambition: securing a spot at the Olympic Games.

The International President Cup 2025 Regatta has brought together over 200 athletes from more than 20 countries. The competition, which began today in Sugovushan, will continue May 1–2 at the Kur Olympic Sports and Training Center in Mingachevir.
