“It's been five years since our lands were liberated by our glorious army under the leadership of the President. Since 2022, following his directives, we have been organizing various sports competitions in Karabakh.”
This statement was made by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Idman.biz reports.
He spoke to journalists following the opening ceremony of the President Cup 2025 Regatta in Sugovushan, held in honor of the 102nd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s birth. Gayibov emphasized the growing prestige of the event:
“This regatta has been held since the liberation of our lands. We’re now in the fifth year. While only four countries participated in the first edition, this year the number has surpassed twenty. The event is now featured on the international sporting calendar. Interest continues to rise each year. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the organizers. Together with the federations, we will continue to host both local and international competitions.”
The International President Cup 2025 Regatta brings together over 200 athletes from more than 20 countries. The competition kicked off today in Sugovushan and will continue on May 1–2 at the Kur Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir. Here, athletes will compete in various kayak, canoe, and academic rowing disciplines across different distances.
The closing ceremony will take place on May 2 in front of the Kur Olympic Training and Sports Center. It will include an award presentation for the winners in kayak-canoe and academic rowing, with the regatta concluding in traditional style — with a fireworks display.
Notably, the President Cup Regatta has been included in the European Canoe Association (ECA) official calendar for the third consecutive year.
