In a recent statement to journalists about the Mingachevir Regatta-2024, Vusal Gurbanov, press secretary of the Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation (AKAF), expressed optimism regarding the competition. He remarked:
"We have some exceptionally strong athletes participating in this regatta. Over the years, the prestige of this event has grown significantly, especially as we've hosted competitions in regions that have recently been freed from occupation. Tomorrow, we will celebrate a significant milestone with the opening ceremony of the 'Mingachevir Regatta-2024' at the Lower Kondalanchay storage pool in Fuzuli, coinciding with the anniversary of its liberation. This event will feature an official parade of athletes, followed by the start of the competitions."
Gurbanov highlighted that preliminary events and competitions have already taken place at the Kur Olympic Training and Sports Center, renowned as the home of rowing in Mingachevir:
"Today, we conducted a brief opening and held several competitions here. Countries such as Turkiye, Georgia, and Moldova have sent highly ambitious athletes eager to compete for medals. However, we firmly believe that Azerbaijani athletes will excel in this tournament."
