Taleh Mammadov expects medals from both Azerbaijani wrestlers

"Murad Mammadov has a high chance of reaching the final and winning a medal."

Taleh Mammadov, a former Greco-Roman wrestler of the Azerbaijan national team, told Idman.biz.

He assessed the chances of our Greco-Roman wrestlers Murad Mammadov (63 kg) and Sabah Shariati (130 kg), who will start fighting at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games today: "Murad will probably meet Chinese Cao Liquo after defeating Venezuelan Raiber Jose Rodriguez Orozco. Our wrestler should easily win against his Asian opponent. The semifinal match may be a bit difficult for him. But Mammadov will write his name in the final."

The former wrestler believes that Sabah Shariati will also win a medal: "He will face the experienced, 39-year-old Estonian Heiki Nabi in the first match. Unless something unexpected happens, Shariati must defeat him. The next challenges will be the athletes from Kazakhstan and Romania. From this aspect, our representative should advance to the semifinals. But at this stage, he will most likely face a wrestler from Cuba or Iran. This meeting will be very difficult. If he loses in the semifinals, the bronze match will be difficult. Sabah can be 5th in this competition, and if he defeats his opponent from Cuba or Iran, he can become the champion. Because all the strong are in the group where Sabah is included."

Murad Mammadov will face Raiber Jose Rodríguez Orozco (Venezuela) in the Elimination Round of 16, while Sabah Shariati will face Heiki Nabi (Estonia) at the same stage. The race will start at 17:00 Baku time.
