The experienced specialist evaluated the championship of Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) and Zelim Kotsoiev (100 kg) at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Akhundzade, who experienced the joy of gold medal in Beijing 2008 with Elnur Mammadli 16 years ago, said that he is proud of the team: "Nazim Huseynov has done it before. After such a long time, such a result just made us happy. It is a pride to experience these feelings as a people. We are proud of each of our athletes for this result. Judo has a deep history in our country. For this reason, it is of special importance for our youth. Mr. President Ilham Aliyev pays special attention and care to the sport of judo. All the work done is a clear example of this."
According to him, he expected a gold medal from our athletes at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games: "On the first day, when the representatives of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan won the gold, people expected that we would also have a champion. Of course, before the competitions started, we hoped that Hidayat and Zelym would become champions. Hidayat's meetings were difficult. I would even say that the World Championship in Abu Dhabi was easily won. Of course, competitors also learn everything. They conduct analyzes and recognize athletes. Zelym's final match was very dramatic. In general, it is very difficult to perform at the Olympics. Above all, you have to be mentally prepared here. Therefore, our young people have done a great job."
The Azerbaijani national team won 2 gold medals in Paris 2024 and signed the best performance in its history.
