Another Azerbaijani athlete barred from European Para-Judo Championships in Tbilisi

Another Azerbaijani athlete was barred from competing at the European Para-Judo Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia, from September 18 to 21.

Idman.biz, citing Prosport.az, reports that it was revealed that Ilkin Nasibov, who intended to compete in the J2 category for judokas with partial visual impairment, in fact has no vision problems.

In the tournament, Azerbaijani men competing included Ismayil Muradov (J1, 70 kg), Abdulrahman Rzazade (J1, 70 kg), Muhammad Akbarov (J2, 70 kg), Saleh Sultanov (J2, 81 kg), Mehman Huseynov (J1, +95 kg), and Ilham Zakiyev (J1, +95 kg), while women represented were Dursadaf Karimova (J2, +70 kg) and Khatira Ismiyeva (J1, +70 kg).

Only Azerbaijan’s Paralympic champions managed to secure medals. Ilham Zakiyev, who is also vice president of the National Paralympic Committee, claimed his ninth European title, while Dursadaf Karimova earned a silver medal.

Earlier in May, at the World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, Paralympic champion Shahana Hajiyeva was also found to have no visual impairment and was barred from competing. As a result, she was given a lifetime ban from para-judo competitions. Both Shahana Hajiyeva and Ilkin Nasibov are students of Farid Agakishiyev in Sumgayit.
