Sona Aghayeva makes history with World Championships bronze

Azerbaijani boccia player Sona Aghayeva has won a bronze medal at the World Championships held in Seoul, South Korea.

As reported by İdman.Biz, citing the National Paralympic Committee of Azerbaijan, Aghayeva competed in the BC2 category.

In the bronze medal match, the Azerbaijani athlete defeated South Korea's Ahyeong Choi, who is ranked third in the world.

The result marks Azerbaijan's first-ever medal in boccia at either the European or World Championships in the history of the country's Paralympic movement.

Boccia is a Paralympic sport based on precision. It is somewhat similar to curling, but balls are used instead of stones.

Athletes take turns throwing or rolling red and blue balls, aiming to place them as close as possible to a small white target ball known as the "jack". Players can also knock their opponents' balls away or move the jack, making tactical thinking as important as accuracy.
