Corruption scandal unfolds around 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy

The Italian prosecutor's office is investigating corruption related to construction tenders for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Idman.biz, citing Inside the Games, reports that inspections are also being carried out regarding the Olympic Village project.

Currently, searches are underway in offices and private residences, and arrest warrants have been issued for six individuals.

According to the source, the investigation mainly focuses on a large real estate construction project in central Milan and on planned developments in areas around the city, one of which is the future site of the Olympic Village.

At least 74 individuals are being investigated as suspects. Among them is Milan’s mayor, Giuseppe Sala, who is allegedly involved in “concealing a conflict of interest” and “putting pressure on the committee responsible for issuing building permits.”

According to Corriere della Sera, the mayor has denied all allegations.

For context, the 2026 Winter Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from February 6–22 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
