"There were moments that met our expectations. We won 2 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze medals," said Emin Iskenderov, coach of Azerbaijan's youth judo team, in an interview with Idman.biz.
Evaluating the team’s performance at the Gymnasiade in Manama, Bahrain, Iskenderov noted that the results could have been even better: "We could have had 4 or 5 golds. Some of our silver medalists were strong contenders, but errors in officiating and incorrect decisions led to their losses. However, I believe this was just their first major test. Upcoming competitions will bring even more success."
Azerbaijani athletes finished second overall, ranking first among boys and ninth among girls with a total of 2 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
