Azerbaijan name preliminary squad for World Judo Championships in Baku

Azerbaijan have announced their preliminary squad for the World Judo Championships, which will be held in Baku from October 4 to 11.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the Azerbaijan Judo Federation has named 23 athletes — 17 men and six women — across 12 weight categories for one of the biggest events on the international judo calendar.

The team will compete under the guidance of performance director and men’s national team head coach Richard Trautmann, senior coaches Elkhan Mammadov, Elchin Ismayilov, Robert Krawczyk and Slavko Tekic, as well as women’s national team head coach Amina Abdellatif and senior coach Sasha Herkenrath-Wimar.

The individual competitions at the National Gymnastics Arena will take place from October 4 to 10, with the mixed team event scheduled for October 11.

48 kg: Shafag Hamidova, Konul Aliyeva

52 kg: Gultaj Mammadaliyeva

57 kg: Khadija Gadashova

70 kg: Sudaba Aghayeva

+78 kg: Madina Kaisinova

Men

60 kg: Balabay Aghayev, Ahmad Yusifov

66 kg: Ruslan Pashayev, Turan Bayramov, Nizami Imranov

73 kg: Hidayat Heydarov, Rashid Mammadaliyev

81 kg: Zelim Tckaev, Omar Rajabli, Vusal Galandarzade

90 kg: Murad Fatiyev, Eljan Hajiyev, Suleyman Shukurov

100 kg: Zelim Kotsoiev

+100 kg: Ushangi Kokauri, Kanan Nasibov, Jamal Gamzatkhanov

The championship will give Azerbaijan the opportunity to compete for world medals on home soil, with several of the country’s leading judokas included in the preliminary squad.
