Turan Bayramov defeated Andrea Carlıno (Italy) in the 1/16 finals, followed by Irakli Kupatadze (Georgia) and qualified for the 1/4 finals. At this stage, our judoka, who lost to the French athlete Richard Vergnes, did not succeed against the local Giorgi Sardalashvili in the consolation match.

Balabay Aghayev qualified for the 1/2 finals by defeating Vijay Kumar Yadav (India) in the 1/16 finals, and over Tsogt-Ochir Byambajac (Mongolia) and Tornike Tsjakadoea (Netherlands) in the following stages, respectively.
