A new Judo Training Center has officially opened in Shabran.
Idman.Biz, citing the Azerbaijan Judo Federation (AJF), reports that the opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Head of Shabran District Executive Authority Asif Huseynov, AJF Executive Vice President Rashad Rasulov, and other officials.
The center, equipped with modern tatami mats meeting international standards, features a physical training zone furnished with the necessary sports equipment to support athletes’ development. The tatami area covers a total of 200 square meters. Additionally, the facility includes a coach’s room and changing rooms. More than 200 athletes will train in judo at the venue.
It is worth noting that between 2022 and 2025, the Azerbaijan Judo Federation has opened judo halls in Ganja, Sumgayit, Gusar, Agstafa, Zaqatala, Goranboy, Sabirabad, Aghali village in Zangilan, Zira settlement in Baku, Agdash, Kurdamir, Astara, Jalilabad, Tartar, Qakh, Imishli, and Mosul village in Zaqatala. Upcoming judo facilities are planned to open in Masalli, Jalilabad, Gobustan, and Siyazan.
Since 2022, the Federation has provided 11,704 tatami mats to 158 sports halls across Baku and the regions, offering free training opportunities to 2,430 young judokas.
