The athlete of the Azerbaijan national team, Mikhail Malkin, who was successful in the World Championship in Trampoline Gymnastics and Tumbling held in Birmingham, has returned to Azerbaijan.
Two-time World Champion has answered the questions of Idman.biz reporters at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
- Mikhail, I congratulate you on the victory. How does it feel to win twice in the same World Championship?
- Before the championship, I went through long training and prepared seriously. This title has always been my dream and I was able to achieve it twice in Birmingham. I will focus all my efforts on defending my title at the next World Championship.
- Perhaps the team's victory is especially satisfying, because it was a pleasant surprise for many.
- We really performed well as a team. I would like to thank our gymnasts who can prove themselves and show high skills. By the way, they secured a ticket to participate in the "TeamGym" European Championship to be held in Italy, I wish each of them success. Well, this victory gave me extra strength until the individual final.
- It can be said that you went to the championship fully prepared, in the most ideal form?
- In terms of preparation, I was in the best form of my career. In the last six months I have worked hard on myself, improving my elements and technique. All this was the result of my hard work. I spent a long time to get into this form.
- The International Gymnastics Federation released a video of your performance during the competition, and they noticed such a note about you: "Mikhail Malkin is a tumbling machine." Would you like to share the secrets of phenomenal performance?
- The gymnasts know me all over the world. They also know how hard I prepared to get what I want. After all, every performance is accompanied by a certain stress, and it is also necessary to be psychologically prepared in order to maintain the leadership.
- Perhaps you have plans for the new season?
- Yes, I will prepare for the World Cup in Baku, which, according to tradition, will be the first international competition of the year in tumbling. After that, we will have the European Championship in Portugal.
- To whom do you dedicate the victory in Birmingham?
- To my family, to my father. I would like to thank my friends, family, my coach Adil Huseynzada, our gymnast veteran Elshad Narimanov, who supported me and the team throughout the World Championship. I express my gratitude to everyone.
