Gymnastics is returning to the European Games programme and will feature almost all of its major disciplines at the 2027 edition in Istanbul, as reported by İdman.Biz.
Artistic gymnastics will feature competitions for both men and women, while rhythmic gymnastics medals will be contested in the individual and group events.
A major part of the programme will be devoted to trampoline disciplines. In addition to individual trampoline competitions, Istanbul will host events in tumbling and double mini-trampoline.
In sports acrobatics, competitions are planned for women's groups and mixed pairs, while aerobic gymnastics will feature group and mixed-pair events.
Parkour, which is governed by World Gymnastics, has also been included in the programme. Athletes will compete for honours in two disciplines – Freestyle and Speed.
Overall, the gymnastics programme at the European Games will bring together artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, tumbling, double mini-trampoline, acrobatics, aerobic gymnastics and parkour.
According to the preliminary schedule, the gymnastics competitions will effectively begin before the official opening of the European Games.
The artistic gymnastics competition is scheduled for June 15-20, while the opening ceremony will take place on June 16.
After a short break, other disciplines will take centre stage. Trampoline, tumbling and aerobic gymnastics competitions are scheduled for June 22.
The following day will feature trampoline, double mini-trampoline, aerobic gymnastics and parkour, while parkour competitions will continue on June 24.
The final three days of the Games, from June 25 to 27, will be dedicated to rhythmic gymnastics and sports acrobatics. The closing ceremony will also take place on June 27.
The organisers stress that the programme remains provisional and may be subject to change.
For gymnastics, the European Games are effectively returning to their roots. The sport featured prominently at the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015, when competitions were held in six disciplines: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, sports acrobatics, aerobic gymnastics and acrobatic gymnastics.
