Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has withdrawn from Friday’s Pirelli tyre test at Mugello after his dog, Roscoe, entered a coma, the team confirmed to ESPN.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion had planned to participate in the test alongside Charles Leclerc, but chose to remain with his 12-year-old bulldog, Idman.biz reports.
Hamilton shared an emotional update on Instagram, explaining that Roscoe developed pneumonia, struggled to breathe, and was admitted to a veterinary hospital. During treatment, the dog’s heart stopped but was successfully restarted. Roscoe remains in a coma, and Hamilton said he will try to help wake him the following day.
Reserve driver Zhou Guanyu stepped in for Hamilton at the tyre test, which was aimed at helping Pirelli finalise decisions on next year’s hardest compounds. Hamilton, who often shares photos of Roscoe and has brought him to races including Silverstone, expressed gratitude for the support and prayers from fans during this difficult time.
