Will Power won Sunday’s IndyCar race at Portland International Raceway, marking Penske’s first win of the season. However, it was Alex Palou who claimed the championship war, securing his fourth IndyCar Series title in five seasons for Chip Ganassi Racing with a third-place finish.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that Palou entered the race with a commanding 121-point lead over rival Pato O’Ward, the only contender who could challenge his title hopes. O’Ward, starting from pole, suffered an electronic issue early in the race that forced an unscheduled pit stop, leaving him nine laps behind and finishing 25th.
Despite having the championship practically secured, Palou pushed hard in the closing laps, emphasizing his focus on winning every race, not just the title. His four championships place him among IndyCar’s legends, trailing only A.J. Foyt and Scott Dixon. With two races left, Palou has a chance to tie the season victory record.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s 17th series title ties them with Team Penske for the most in IndyCar history.
