Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov has shared his expectations for this year's Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
İdman.Biz reports that the minister spoke to the press service of the Baku City Circuit Operations Company ahead of the event.
Gayibov highlighted the significance of the anniversary Grand Prix taking place in a special year when Baku holds the title of World Capital of Sport.
"The anniversary Grand Prix is being held in a special year when Baku is the World Capital of Sport. As one of the major sporting events of 2026, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will contribute to further strengthening our capital's position as an international sports hub.
"The importance of Formula 1 is not limited to the race itself. The Grand Prix stimulates the development of sports tourism, creates additional opportunities for local businesses and draws the attention of millions of fans to Azerbaijan," he said.
The minister also stressed the role of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in enhancing the country's international profile.
"The Grand Prix will contribute to further strengthening Baku's international reputation and promoting Azerbaijan's rich culture and sporting potential around the world. This race will be one of the most memorable sporting events of 2026," Gayibov added.
The 2026 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place in Baku from September 24 to 26.
