Aqil Nabiyev, head coach of Azerbaijan’s U-16 football team, spoke about their 1-0 win over Tajikistan in the 3rd CIS Games, dedicating the victory to the country’s martyrs and veterans, Idman.biz reports.
“This win is for the families of our heroes. As you know, September 27 is Memorial Day. I always remind my players that we represent a victorious nation. Our martyrs and veterans liberated our lands at the cost of their lives. We must honor them on the field as they do for our flag,” Nabiyev said.
He praised the team’s effort, noting their disciplined performance despite injuries: “We prepared seriously and knew the importance of this tournament. Tajikistan is a strong, technical, and aggressive team. Despite some squad issues, our players showed character and scored after our tactical work. Starting the tournament with a win was important.”
Nabiyev added that the team aims to win against Kyrgyzstan on October 1 and reach the final: “We have three days to prepare. Our goal is to advance and become champions. We will correct missed chances and be more precise in upcoming matches.”
