Matches in Spain's La Liga and Segunda Division will proceed as scheduled despite the tragic death of Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel, who passed away following an incident during a league match.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the 30-year-old footballer died in hospital on November 3 after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during the closing stages of a Segunda Division Matchday 12 encounter.
De Miguel lost consciousness following the collision, with media reports suggesting that he suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest lasting nearly 20 minutes. Despite medical efforts, his life could not be saved.
The Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) had previously called for the postponement of the upcoming rounds in both divisions, citing the emotional impact of the tragedy on players throughout the country.
However, La Liga officials have confirmed that the majority of fixtures will take place on their originally scheduled dates.
A minute's silence will be observed before the matches in memory of De Miguel, while play will also be temporarily suspended in the ninth minute as a tribute to the late footballer.
Only four fixtures have been postponed: Castellon vs Eibar, Granada vs Tenerife and Andorra vs Mallorca in the Segunda Division, as well as the women's match between Tenerife and Alaves.
The decision comes amid widespread mourning across Spanish football, with clubs, players and supporters expressing their condolences to De Miguel's family and teammates.
